Edward VII Australian Sovereign
All Gold Sovereigns
If you have decided to collect Gold Sovereigns then here is some useful advice to help you with your collection.
Firstly choose what section of sovereigns you want to collect.
British Sovereigns are very popular and are easy to sell if you ever wish to do so.
A Historical Collection going back to the Tudors would be the ultimate way of collecting gold sovereigns but would require a huge amount of investment.
A slightly more realistic collection (for those of us who are not millionaires) might be the Young Head coins of Queen Victoria - or an easier collection of the sovereigns of King Edward VII ( a reign of only eight years but which could include the Australian Mints) and this would be an achievable goal.
It is easy to suggest the entire range of Queen Victoria Sovereigns and while it would be possible to acquire an excellent collection of these relatively quickly, these would have to be in circulated condition as many dates and mintmarks are now very rare indeed.
Queen Elizabeth II Sovereigns are fairly easy to find and turn up regularly through this website and through coin stores.

There is of course the question of Grading Sovereigns and this is a vexed question - many sellers tend to overestimate he grades of their coins while many buyers underestimate what they buy...
An excellent alternative is for anyone beginning coin collecting to stick to SLABBBED coins (these have already been graded by NGC and are sealed into a plactic container.
One of my friends used to buy his gold coins exclusively directly from the Royal Mint and built up an excellent collection this way by buying directly from the source.
Buying Gold Sovereigns from ebay is a method where you have to be a little careful
ALWAYS check a vendors FEEDBACK (this is ebays listing of each transaction that the vendor has made together with coments and the type of transaction. Try to stick to a seller with a feedback of at least 100 positive comments (and avoid anyone with more than 20 negative comments)
Although by doing so you will certainly miss out on some bargains !
An individual seller may well be selling the remains of a collection and have only 20 or 30 positive feeedbacks.
The other thing to check is the POSTAGE - make sure this is reasonable and for any transction above $50 ask and pay for registered post .
There are usually around 20 paged of Gold Sovereigns to be viewed here - plus the coins in the Australian reviews. These start with the lowest prices and include upwards. You can change this by altering the two boxes above the sovereigns on offer - you will be able to see sales about to end, istant buys etc,
Our other Feature is gold sovereigns on sale from other countries -there are often surprising bargains her - just adjust the left hand box to the country you want to view.
There is a separate page of sales about to end too !
Have fun collecting Sovereigns !
