King George Ist Quarter Guinea
King George I st of England was from the House of Hanover.
He was born in Germany in Osnabruck in 1660.
After he grew into manhood, George took a mistress by whom he had two daughters.
Meanwhile his wife Sophia Dorothea had an affair of her own with Swedish Count Philip Cristoph von Konigsmarck.
There was an attempt by the couple at elopement but instead it was rumoured that four of Ernest Augustus Courtiers murdered the Count.
(He was supposed to have been hacked into pieces and hidden beneath
.the floorboards in Hanover Palace)
After this George had Sophia Dorothea imprisoned in the Castle of Ahlden
where she died 30 years later without seeing her children or her father.
He succeeded Queene Ann when he was 54 and as he was Queen Annes
closest Protestant relative (Catholics were unable to inherit the throne of England at that time)

The Jacobites tried to depose him and replace him with James Francis Edward Stuart but that attempt failed.
Britain then to see a system of government lead by a Prime Minister.
The South Sea Bubble threatened to implicate George in a huge economic crisis in 1722.
