Victoria Young Head Sovereign Review
Young Queen Victoria
When she was only 18 years old Victoria became Queen of the United Kingdom.
She had been brought up as heir to the throne since her very early childhood and was completely tri-lingual.
On 24th May 1837 The Archbishop of Canterbury ad Lord Conynham told her of the death of her father King William IVth
Her Coronation took place on 28 June 1838 and she went to live at Buckingham Palace.
The problem was that Victoria was German, and salic law forbade any woman becoming heir to the throne of Hanover.
Hanover had shared the Monarchy with Britain since 1714 and Hanover had passed over to her uncle who became King Ernest Augustus I . Ernest Augustus remained heir presumptive to the British throne until Victoria gave birth to her first child (in 1849)
Victoria had a good education but was at that time politically inexperienced and after some political tuition from Lord Melbourne her principal advisor became King Leopold 1 of Belgium.

She had met Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha when she was 17 .
When she met him again a second time she fell in love with him.
Because she was the Monarch she had to propose to him !
He was in fact her first cousin.
They married in the Chapel of St James Palace London on February 1oth 1840.
He became her close advisor and her constant companion.
Victoria became Pregnant and then and later suffered a number of assassination attempts.
In Ireland there was the Potato Famine which made many Irish people become opposed to her and in India in 1875 she became Empress of India.
In Australia there was a gold rush and rather than bringing gold back to Engand to make into coins,a decision was made
to open Royal Mints in Sydney Melbourne and Perth The mints produced both sovereigns and half-sovereigns
