The Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria

This nearly did not happen because of a plot to blow up Queen Victoria at Westminster Abbey.

This fortunately was foiled although there were rumours about who was really behind the plot.

The Jubilee Sovereign is an elegant coin and many collectors really want one for their collection.

A special Sovereign was issued for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. This was a little more staid and conventional than the Young Head Sovereign.This was struck at both the London and the  Australian mints
