He became King of the United Kingdom and the British dominions, and Emperor of India from 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 December 1936,

He later married an American Lady Wallis Simpson and this caused a huge scandal in British Society.

Although he could have legally married her and remained King, the Prime Ministers of Britain and the Dominions opposed the wedding and said the the people would not accept Mrs Simpson as their Queen

He Abdicated in favour of his Brother

King George VI and took the title of The Prince Edward and was created Duke of Windsor on 8 March 1937.

During World War II it was alleged that he help pro-Nazi sympathies and he was moved to the Bahamas as Governor and Commander-in Chief.

 Afterwards he and Mrs Simpson lived in several countries .

He Died in 1972 and she died 14 years later at Frogmore and was buried with him at Frogmore - the Royal Burial Ground
