I will take any you have off your hands the going rate is about 50p each
It’s a sad story but…
They’ve all been made in to rings and jewellery for chavs
Gold sovereigns stopped being legal tender at about the time people called Edward Teach stopped roaming the seas.
We don’t use dubloons anymore, but they can be rather valuable to a collector.
Al.
send them to me i’ll give you face value
No, you can’t spend them in a shop, as they have no nominal monitarty value, as their price varies according to gold bullion prices. So they are not legal tender.
However, they are gold bullion, (of sorts, though only 91.6% pure gold), thier formal, regular shape, weight and dimentions make them easily recongnisable and tradeable.
A bank will sell you one, plus VAT, and a commission on top, but i dont know if they will buy them back!
A pawnbroker or some cheque cashing agencies will buy them, as will certain antique dealers and certain jewellers. Jewellers may even take them in part x…but you cant spend them as such.
I’m way out with current prices (as an ex jeweller) but typically, it was the days gold rate, plus/minus a fiver to buy or sell, in the trade….unless the coin has historical value, called a bun coin (early hairdoo of victoria on reverse)
@raymintboy Maybe he likes it because he is not racist like you asshole
There is a NERD for every-trade there is…
hate the music
that’s a nice scale testing device ! the US Mint online advises collectors that coins minted before 1901 are being copied in China.
WHATS UP WITH THAT NIGGER MUSIC??
@amberpoovey – The fake Sovereign didn’t fit through freely but I didn’t have to “force” it. I would say that it passed the test.
For the slip threw test, should the coin fall freely or was the fake barely fitting through ok?
